Jane Hewitt Van Sickle was born in Richmond, Indiana on December 19, 1919. She studied art at Herron Art Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana and exhibited at Herron Art Institute, Indianapolis, Indiana, in the Hoosier Salon and at the Richmond Art Association (RAM). She is represented in the RAM collection, Anderson Art Association, and in private collections. She won awards at RAM and at the Hoosier Salon.

She was a display artist at L.S. Ayres & Co., Indianapolis, Indiana. Eventually, she lived in Schenectady, New York where her husband, Robert Van Sickle (also a painter) taught in public schools and art schools.
