February 6 – March 29, 2025
Opening Reception: February 6, 5:30 – 7:30PM
5 Days, Antonio McAfee’s exhibition at the Richmond Art Museum will be “a reflection on masculinity and male figures in my family – my father, son, biological grandfather, step grandfather, and my transition into the patriarch in my family. Broader themes of significant historical male American figures will feature some of the first African American elected officials such as Hiram Revels and Robert Smalls – both politicians during the Reconstruction era – will be represented. 5 Days, delineates resolve and loss within generations through a layering of the personal photographs taken by my grandfather, myself, found historical photographs and abstract colorful patterns from personal artifacts.”
